The recommended number of sessions per week or month may vary according to your child’s age, their areas of need, their goals and availability. Gabriella recommends a regular schedule to ensure that learning is consistent and that optimum progress is made. A recommendation is to have at least one to two sessions per week. This allows for regular reinforcement and consistent practice.
During your initial consultation with Gabriella, you can discuss your child’s needs and goals and therefore, the most suitable frequency and duration for forthcoming sessions.
8. How does Gabriella assess and track the progress of each child?
Gabriella comprehensively assesses and tracks the progress of each child through their tutoring journey. Please see below for the ways in which assessment and tracking are utilised to ensure that you, as the parent/ guardian, are always informed about your child’s progress:
Initial Assessment: At the beginning of the tutoring journey, Gabriella conducts a detailed assessment (according to the child's area of need). This could include a Maths assessment or a Reading/ Writing assessment. The assessment will be used to gauge your child’s current level of understanding and their targets for future development.
Ongoing Monitoring: During each session, Gabriella always observes your child’s performance and progress. She uses a combination of observation, questioning techniques and interactive and targeted activities to assess their understanding and progress. This knowledge is then used to plan future sessions.
Regular/ End of Topic Assessments: At the end of a topic or unit of work, Gabriella conducts a further assessment to check your child’s progress and understanding. This may include a written exercise or a quiz. The end of topic assessment is then used for future planning and development.
Monthly Progress Reports: To keep you informed, Gabriella provides a written progress report at the end of each month which details the targets of focus (from the last four weeks) and a traffic light system which is used to indicate whether a child is still learning to develop a concept (red), developing and beginning to understand the concept (yellow) or that they have fully understand the concept and are ready to move on (green). This is accompanied by a short comment which will outline the progress that your child has made in more detail. These reports are a fantastic tracking resource and a great way to celebrate your child’s academic milestones.
Open Communication: At the heart of GL Primary Tutoring is open communication. We believe that fostering a strong partnership with parents/ guardians is fundamental. Gabriella will always maintain an open line of communication and will always be open to discussing any concerns or questions that you may have.
With a combination of effective assessment techniques, Gabriella ensures that your child’s progress is carefully tracked and that they make optimum progress.
